Ian Blackman is a Si2 Expert in the areas of Obsolescence Management and Asset Management
Ian worked in the defense industry for thirty years before managing the International Institute of Obsolescence Management (IIOM), a trade association, for six years. His defense experience was with BAE Systems and the Finmeccanica Group in complex avionics and communication systems. He spent time in contract management, materials management and sub-contractor management as well as operations support. At BAE Systems he led the Component Engineering Team and later the Avionics Group Obsolescence Strategy Team reporting directly to the Board.
He was a founder member of the Component Obsolescence Group (which is now IIOM) where he assisted in the development of the international standard for obsolescence IEC62402, and the international growth and recognition of the group. Membership of IIOM has enabled Ian to gain experience in other sectors such as nuclear energy, oil & gas, railways, automotive and medical systems.
Ian runs his own trade association management and consultancy business based in the UK and is the Technical Manager for the IIOT. His expert focus is in the areas of:
- Obsolescence management process assessment and development
- Sub-contract management
- Developing obsolescence management plans
- Component selection assessment
- Advice on the resolution of obsolescence arising’s
- Awareness of counterfeit goods and services
- Environmental legislation affecting design
